He was the first to use the quantum mechanics to explain chemical bonding. He was also a educator, peace activist, and author. Considered one of the most influential chemists in history, he was a pioneer of science in the fields of quantum chemistry and molecular biology.
Nobel Prize Laureate
Pauling is one of only four individuals to have won more than one Nobel Prize. He is one of only two people awarded Nobel Prizes in different fields (Chemistry and Peace prizes), the other being Madame Marie Curie (for Chemistry and Physics Prizes). He is the only laureate to receive two unshared Nobel Prizes:
* 1954 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for applying quantum mechanics to chemical bonding study, relating to molecular structures
* 1962 Nobel Peace Prize for Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.
